Jakarta is really a shopper’s paradise, and many say the variety of products and prices here are amongst the best in the world. Prices and quality can vary quite a lot though, and most of us westerners have experienced that the prices rises one or two times when the sellers just get a glimpse of our pale face and blue eyes. If also “Newcomer” is written in your face it is even worse. But shopping here is really exiting, and when you get used to it and learn how things work you could have a great deal of fun and “save” a lot of money, compared with buying these things in our Nordic home countries. When you are new in Jakarta and need everything for your new home and also need to by some new clothes and shoes for a different climate, shopping in the big department stores where they have almost everything is the best place to start. Note though, that large shoe sizes can be hard to find.

4. Factory outlets in Jakarta
The cheapest way to shop clothes, bags and shoes are in the factory outlets and in Bandung, a 2 hours car ride from Jakarta, or in Bogor and Puncak, both somewhat closer. It is just a pity that half of Jakarta seems to go to these places in the weekends, which causes a lot of traffic jams - so shopping tours to these places on weekdays are much better. Some of the Factory outlet companies also have shops in Jakarta - here are the name and addresses to some of them:
Fashion Warehouse in Jl. Gebang Pemuda Kav. 3, Komp Taman Ria, Senayan
Rempoa in Jl. Rempoa west of Pondok Indah
Heritage in Kebayoran Baru, not far from Pondok Indah
Millennia, close to Jl. Sudirman (behind the Jakarta Stock Exchange building)
Brasco, a new one close to the toll road and CITOS
The Factory Outlet in Jl. Ampera Raya
Sports Warehouse inside Java Department Store close to Sarinah Department Store
So Happy Shopping or “Selamat Berbelanja” everyone!!!
